Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be structurally sound, dry and free from oil, grease, dust, loose or peeling paint, sealers, floor finishes, curing compounds or any contaminant that would prevent a good bond. Minimum tensile
bond strength of 72 psi (0.5 MPa) is required. Substrate temperature should be a minimum of 43°F (6°C) during application and air temperature maintained above 50° (10°C). DO NOT cover existing building expansion or control joints. Remove all dust by vacuuming. TEC Skill Set Universal Skimcoat and Patch can be installed over new or moist concrete with RH of 95% or less. For moisture sensitive floor coverings refer to the finished floor manufacturer’s specifications on moisture limitations. Remediation of excessive moisture conditions must be addressed prior to the installation of TEC Skill Set Universal Skimcoat and Patch.
Note: Vinyl asbestos tile or any substrate containing asbestos shall not be sanded, scored or scarified because of the potential health hazard of breathing dust. Any substrate containing asbestos must be handled in accordance with existing EPA revaluations. Contact your local EPA office.
Instructions for Mixing
Mix only as much TEC Skill Set Universal Skimcoat and Patch as can be used in 20 minutes. USE IMMEDIATELY after mixing. Slowly add the entire bag of TEC Skill Set Universal Skimcoat and Patch into 1.75 quarts (1.66 L) of clean, cool water while mixing at a low speed (not exceeding 300 rpm to prevent entraining air). For smaller amounts, use a mixing ratio of 2 parts powder to 1 part water. Mix
thoroughly for 2 minutes to a smooth, lumpfree consistency.
Application
Immediately after mixing, with a flat steel trowel, work TEC Skill Set Universal Skimcoat and Patch into the void to be filled. Then, finish to a level surface to achieve the desired smoothness. The working time
for this product is 15 to 20 minutes depending upon the temperature. High temperature will shorten the working time. For repairs greater than ½ in. (12 mm) in thickness, you will need to apply two coats,
allowing the first coat to set before applying the second. Do not exceed a total thickness of 1 in. (25 mm) of TEC Skill Set Universal Skimcoat and Patch. Do not overwork the product.
Drying Time
TEC Skill Set Universal Skimcoat and Patch is ultra-fast drying and can accept foot traffic and the installation of most floor covering materials in as soon as 30 minutes and up to 60 minutes, depending on
temperature, thickness and substrate. Protect from excessive heat or drafty conditions during curing period.
Clean-up
While material is still fresh, clean tools, hands and equipment with
warm, soapy water.
